TT Central Bank authorises first company to issue e-money - CARICOM Business

The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago has issued a provisional registration to PayWise Limited as an electronic money (e-money) issuer. The provisional registration authorises PayWise to issue e-money in Trinidad and Tobago from September 1, 2022, becoming the first entity, apart from banks and non-bank financial institutions, so authorised.

PayWise will also be allowed to enlist new customers. PayWise is registered as a payment service provider since 2019 by CBTT.

CARIFORUM/EU Capacity Building Workshop on Restorative Justice ends with loud praise for the Initiative

(CARICOM Secretariat) The Regional Train-the-Trainer Workshop on Restorative Justice, using the Sycamore Tree Project methodology ended on 4 December, in Georgetown, Guyana. The initiative targetted officials from the government Criminal Justice System and non-govermental organisations working in rehabilitation, across the Region.

Prime Minister Rowley and President Granger Sign Energy MOU

(Office of the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago) Prime Minister Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley and President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana His Excellency Brigadier David Granger signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Sector Cooperation today Wednesday 19 September, 2018 (at State House, Georgetown, Guyana).

Prime Minister Rowley said today represents a documentation of his country’s commitment to do more in its neighbourly relations with Guyana with respect to the generation of economic activity.

Private Sector capacity building and consultation: CARICOM strategy for regional implementation of the World Trade Organization Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA)

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has convened a Private Sector Consultation and capacity building workshop on the WTO Agreement on Trade Facilitation (TFA) and the CARICOM Strategy for Regional Implementation.

The Meeting, intended for national Business Development Organisations from CARICOM WTO Members, takes place in Kingston, Jamaica, 19-20 April, 2017, with the support of the Commonwealth Secretariat/European Union Hubs & Spokes II Programme, in collaboration with the World Bank Group (WBG).

More than 50% of electricity demand to be supplied by Renewables

The Government is projecting that within two years, more than half of Jamaica’s electricity demand, totalling nearly 700 megawatts will be generated from renewable sources.

According to Finance and Public Service Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, this is based on the Government’s “aggressive” approach to fuel diversification resulting in over 200 megawatts of renewable energy already being supplied to the national power grid.

Antigua-Barbuda strongly objects to being listed as a tax haven by Illinois

ST JOHN’S, Antigua -- Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday registered strong objections with the US state of Illinois, which has introduced legislation listing Antigua and Barbuda and ten Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries along with six other Caribbean jurisdictions as tax havens.

Private sector development in Caribbean pivotal – Barbados PM

Freundel Stuart, on Wednesday stressed that private sector development in the Caribbean remained pivotal and suggested that exporters must continue to be empowered to penetrate global markets. According to him, enabling and strengthening the private sector was the most effective way of ensuring continued economic growth in this Region.

(March 2, 2017) President David Granger, who arrived in The Bahamas on an official visit, this afternoon said that much of the economic and unemployment problems facing the Region can be solved if Caribbean States work to combine their resources, talents and expertise.
