St Kitts Reports Major Drop in Crime

St Kitts and Nevis is reporting a significant drop in crime, according to new data from the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

According to the new data, the island reported a 70 percent dip in crime in April compared to the same month in 2013.

“Despite our challenges, it is very clear that crime has trended down in the Federation and is reflected by the Federation’s statistics of – 69.5% in April 2014 compared to the same time 2013,” the Office of the Commissioner of Police said in a statement.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH ON VERGE OF RAPID HIV TESTING

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 09, 2014 (SKNIS): The St. Kitts and Nevis Ministry of Health is on the verge of offering Point of Care (POC) Rapid Testing as a means of scaling up prevention and early detection of HIV.

The National AIDS Secretariat in the Ministry of Health has informed that Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) Providers are currently in training for the administration of the new POC Rapid Testing for HIV.

BASSETERRE, St Kitts -- Sonia Boddie, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Youth Ambassador for the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, was a part of the youth contingent selected from across the region, to participate in the Pan-Caribbean Partnership Against HIV and Aids (PANCAP) Caribbean Consultation on Justice for All and Human Rights Agenda, convened under the theme “Advancing Justice for ALL and Human Rights in the Caribbean”, and held in Kingston Jamaica, from 10-11 April, 2014.

Smart Meters to be installed in St. Kitts homes by 2017

Residences in St. Kitts would soon be fitted with Smart Meters.

The St. Kitts Electrical Company (SKELEC) said the new metering project begins next month and all residential meters should be replaced in 2017.

Implement of the new metering project is designed to help consumers to better manage their electrical consumption. Prior to implementation, the utility will pilot the on-stream smart meters on several affordable homes now being constructed in several areas on the island.

Douglas has outlined elements which could form the roadmap for post 2015 development agenda and removing the barriers in policies, laws, values and behaviour that are spoilers in the march toward social justice.

CARIBBEAN-POPULATION-OAS completes digitalization of civil registry in six Caribbean countries

WASHINGTON, CMC – The Organization of American States (OAS) says it has completed a project to assist the Civil Registries in six Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries digitalize vital statistical information.

The OAS said that   through its subsidiary, Universal Civil Identity Program in the Americas (PUICA), it completed the project in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
