PM attending PetroCaribe talks in Venezuela

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony is heading a two-member delegation to Venezuela for a meeting of PetroCaribe, an initiative of Caracas allowing many Caribbean countries to purchase oil on conditions of preferential payment.
St. Lucia has not joined the alliance that was launched in 2005, but a government statement said that attending the meeting would allow Castries to have an updated assessment of the initiative.

Unions mum following talks with Prime Minister Anthony

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Trade union officials were keeping mum on Tuesday, one day after Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony indicated that while his government is anxious to bring closure to the wage and salary negotiations involving public servants it is not going to endorse salaries that would force the island into the clutches of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Anthony met with the members of the Trade Union Federation (TUF) after the trade unionists met in an emergency session on Monday.

Prime Minister warns of economic problems for St. Lucia

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, Jan 4, CMC - Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony says St. Lucia has the largest fiscal deficit in the Caribbean as he prepares to address the nation on Sunday on the economic challenges facing the island. "Where as other Caribbean states might have a fiscal deficit of seven to eight per cent of GDP (Gross Domestic Product), we are climbing up to 10 per cent. That’s a warning sign so we have really got to ensure that we bring it under some degree of control, and resolve those differences.

Saint Lucia’s Poet and Economist calls for an enabling environment for cultural industries

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Last week Thursday, Audrian Augier, co-Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Regional Task Force on Cultural Industries, told a meeting of youth, culture and sport ministers that the Caribbean Region had failed to maximise its advantage in the creative cultural industries and as such had forfeited significant potential revenue which could be derived from their top-earning artists and entrepreneurs.

CARICOM fields electoral observer mission to Saint Lucia

  (CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will mount an Observer Mission to elections in Saint Lucia on 28 November 2011. The 10-member team will be headed by Chief of Mission, Ambassador Rudy Collins of Guyana. Deputy Chief of Mission is Mr. Eugene Petty of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Saint Lucia to Inaugurate and Chair CARICOM Task Force on Sustainable Development


The island's Minister for Sustainable Development, Hon. Dr. James Fletcher will chair the high-level meeting.
The Government of Saint Lucia, on Thursday 19th June 2014, will host the first meeting of a High-Level CARICOM Task Force on Sustainable Development in the Conference Room of the Ministry of the Public Service, Information and Broadcasting. 

Saint Lucia’s Minister for Public Service, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Hon. James Fletcher, has been chosen by the CARICOM Secretariat to chair this high-level Regional Task Force.

Good morning and thank you for being here today. Our delegation is pleased to be with the people of Saint Lucia and to serve as observes in the December 11th General Elections.

Our presence on the island is at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia; our mandate comes from CARICOM Heads of State and Government who instructed that an observer mission be present for these elections.
