P.J. PATTERSON HEADS CARICOM TEAM TO MEETING ON HAITI IN CANADA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Former Jamaica Prime Minister Most Honourable Percival Patterson is leading a delegation from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to a meeting of a Coordination Committee created to organise an International Conference which will have as its objective, the devising of a Strategic Plan for the Reconstruction of Haiti following the catastrophic earthquake of 12 January 2010.

COMMUNITY IN BILATERAL MEETINGS ON MARGINS OF CHOGM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Trinidad and Tobago will hold talks with four countries and an international financial institution on the margins of the meeting which takes place in Port of Spain, on 27-29 November 2009.

CARIBBEAN NATIONAL HEADS UNESCO GENERAL CONFERENCE - CARICOM SG EXPRESSES CONGRATS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community Secretary-General H.E. Edwin Carrington has extended congratulations to His Excellency Ambassador Davidson L. Hepburn on his election as President for the 35th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

A Bahamian, Ambassador Hepburn, who was elected last week in Paris by the 58 Member States of the UNESCO Executive Board, is the first Caribbean National to have been elected to this post during the 60 years of UNESCO’s existence.

Let me begin by being quite relevant, in extending a pleasant climatic and environmentally peaceful day to all of you. It is a real pleasure, and a genuine honour, to welcome you to this Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change and Development. Indeed, I feel particularly honoured to welcome you today in my capacity as CARICOM’s lead Head of Government with responsibility for the Sustainable Development portfolio, which includes Climate Change.

CARICOM AND CARIFORUM HEADS OF GOVERNMENT MEET ON CRITICAL ISSUES

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Heads of Government of ten of the sixteen members of the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) will attend the Third Special Meeting of CARIFORUM Heads of Government, at the Sherbourne Conference Centre in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Wednesday 10 September, 2008.

CARIFORUM comprises the 14 independent states of CARICOM, the Dominican Republic and Cuba.

HEADS OF CARICOM REGIONAL INSTITUTIONS MEET IN GEORGETOWN

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, His Excellency Edwin W Carrington and Heads of CARICOM regional institutions will convene their Third Meeting on 23-24 July 2009 at the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana.

The Heads of institutions will explore avenues for strengthening functional cooperation among their organisations through the sharing of programmes and policies, greater use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and the development of human resources.
