The Regional Transportation Commission was established in 2013 with a Terms of Reference created to address Air and Maritime Transportation matters relating to the Caribbean Community.

The composition of the Transportation Commission would comprise:

Countries that have Government owned airlines namely – The Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname and shareholders of LIAT (Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines);

Quasi Government organizations – Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), Port Authorities, Airport Authorities and Maritime Authorities;

Private sector entities such as LAPARKAN Shipping Company;


 

In the context of the Commission, regional transportation issues for both air and maritime transportation relate essentially to the –

(i) delivery of adequate, fair, competitive, efficient transportation services at affordable costs;

(ii) paramount need for the safety and security of the transportation infrastructure;

(iii) cost and sustainability of transportation in the region;

(iv) strengthening of the economic development of the CARICOM region and the Member States, and their economic integration through trade and the movement of people and freight.


 

To achieve our objectives, we have categorized our priority areas into three (3) main themes:

1. Framework for Effective Delivery of Transportation
2. Cost and Sustainability of Transportation in the Region 
3. Ease of Travel
