​ Let’s Get Involved

It is my pleasure to bring you greetings on behalf of H.E. Mr Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), and indeed the entire CARICOM Secretariat. Today, 14 June 2010, we are engaging partners in a discussion on the future of one of the most impressive and important undertakings. One that may be deemed an investment in the health of the people of the Caribbean and which could well make this event a landmark in the annals of the CARICOM regional integration process.

REGIONAL INTEGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT : THE RELEVANCE OF FUNCTIONAL COOPERATION.  KEYNOTE ADDRESS DELIVERED BY DR. EDWARD GREENE, ASSISTANT SECRETARY GENERAL, HUMAN AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY SECRETARIAT, AT THE OAS/UNESCO CONFERENCE ON CARIBBEAN HIGHER EDUCATION, 11 APRIL 2010, PARAMARIBO, SURINAME

This Conference is most timely. Its focus on higher education priorities, challenges and opportunities as bridges for strengthening integration between the Caribbean and Latin America, is consistent with the World Conference on Higher Education held in Paris in July 2009; the outcomes of the Fifth Summit of the Americas held in Port- of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, April 2009 and the UNESCO Declaration on Educational for All (1990).

CARICOM REPRESENTED AT HAITI DONORS CONFERENCE AT UN

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Most Honourable Percival J. Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica and Special Representative of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to Haiti, and Ambassador Colin Granderson, Assistant Secretary-General Foreign and Community Relations, CARICOM Secretariat, will represent the Community at an International Donors Conference on Haiti on Wednesday 31 March 2010.

CARICOM INVOLVED IN HAITI PLANNING CONFERENCE

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government Special Representative on Haiti, the Most Honourable Percival Patterson and CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General Foreign and Community Relations, Ambassador Colin Granderson are in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic attending a preparatory meeting for the Pledging Conference on Haiti convened by the United States and scheduled for 31 March at the United Nations headquarters, New York, USA.

CARICOM CALLS FOR DIRECT FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO HAITI GOVERNMENT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is to provide direct financial support to Haiti in recognition of the importance of channelling resources through the government of Haiti and as a demonstration of the Community’s confidence in the Haitian government.
The Community is also calling on the international community to demonstrate a greater level of confidence in Haiti to move its reconstruction process forward.
