(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Honourable Heads of Government, High Officials and Dignitaries of State Officers of CARICOM Friends, it is my honour and pleasure to welcome you to the Republic of Suriname. Today is March 8, International Women's Day and also the Celebration of Holi Phagwah, both auspicious occasions for us in this Region.

CARICOM HEADS OF GOVERNMENT HALF-YEARLY MEETING - CARICOM LEADERS SAY CHANGE MUST COME ... IT WILL COME

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The 23rd half-yearly meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government opened this morning in Surname, with a resolve from leaders that change must be the order of the day.

The opening ceremony was addressed by Chairman of the Conference, His Excellency Desiré Delano Bouterse, President of the Republic of Suriname; Outgoing Chairman, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, and the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.

CARICOM HEADS OF GOVERNMENT MEET IN SURINAME: RESTRUCTURING AND REFORM HIGH ON AGENDA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) When Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government meet in Suriname next week Thursday and Friday for their 23rd Inter-Sessional Conference, it is to discuss a crisp agenda, which has among its priorities, the Landell Mills review of the CARICOM Secretariat and the strategic direction of the 15-member Community.

As outgoing Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government, it gives me great pleasure to wish the people of the Caribbean Community a blessed and peaceful Christmas.

During our celebration of this season of goodwill, let us, as a Community, reflect on our achievements over the year that is fast ending, a reflection that will no doubt be coloured by the challenges spawned by the current period of global uncertainties.
