Welcome to the Thirty-Sixth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.  The excellent arrangements for this evening’s Opening Ceremony is a fine example of how our hosts, the Government and people of Barbados, have organised this Meeting to create an atmosphere conducive to productive discussions.  The CARICOM family and guests are all beneficiaries of your gracious and generous hospitality.

 

CARICOM Heads Opening Ceremony on Thursday

Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will assume chairmanship of the 15-Member Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on July 1, replacing outgoing Chairman, Perry Christie of the Bahamas.

As the new chairman of the Caribbean Community, Mr. Stuart will address the Opening Ceremony of the 36th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM on July 2, at the Hilton Barbados Resort, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Prime Minister to attend OFID Signing, CARICOM Heads Meeting

Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs, Planning and Social Security, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony leaves the state today to travel to Vienna. There, he will attend the Signing Ceremony of a Loan Agreement between the Government of Saint Lucia and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).

 

Prime Minister Dr. The Honourable Timothy Harris attends Regional Summit with Heads of State to discuss vulnerabilities related to climate change

Martinique, West Indies, May 09, 2015 (SKNIS): Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris is meeting with regional heads of state at a climate change Summit being held in Martinique.  
The event is being chaired by Mr. Francois Hollande, President of the French Republic.  Accompanying the Prime Minister are Minister of Public Infrastructure, post urban development and transport Ian “Patches” Liburd and Attorney General Vincent Byron.

In October 2011, a report commissioned by Commonwealth Heads of Government made the following compelling statement:
At least 60 per cent of the Commonwealth’s population is under    30 years of age.
That is significantly lower than the global average of 52%.
Therefore the future of the Commonwealth – and of the world it 
shares – is inexorably tied to the future of these young people.
 

Cricket Legends meet CARICOM Heads of Government

West Indies Cricket Legends Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Wesley Hall, Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Andy Roberts, Deryck Murray, Gordon Greenidge and Michael Holding met in Grenada with the CARICOM Cricket Governance Committee to have a discussion on the Governance of Cricket.

CARICOM heads agree to focus on sports tourism and cultural industries

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     CARICOM heads have decided to place emphasis on developing cultural and creative industries and a sports sector to boost their economies. The announcement was made at the closing press conference for the two-day 26th Inter-sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government on Friday afternoon by Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government and Prime Minister of The Bahamas Hon. Perry Christie.
