Regional Trade officials put spotlight on services

The CARICOM Secretariat’s Office of Trade Negotiations in collaboration with the Inter‑American Development Bank (IDB), through its Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) and the IDB Integration and Trade Sector is hosting a Regional Workshop for CARICOM Trade Officials on the Trade and Services Agreement (TiSA) Negotiations and the Negative List Approach to Services and Investment Liberalization.

PANCAP Convenes Governance Meetings in Guyana

The Pan Caribbean Partnership against HIV and AIDS (PANCAP) will convene the Twenty-Fifth Meeting of the Executive Board and the Twelfth Meeting of the Regional Coordinating Mechanism for Global Fund Projects on 7 - 8 September 2016 at the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Guyana. Senator the Honourable Mary Isaac, Minister for Health and Wellness of Saint Lucia will chair these meetings.

CARICOM Promotes Public Awareness of Free Movement

The CARICOM Secretariat is pressing ahead with its public education programme regarding the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). It will be hosting a series of three (3) public sensitisation sessions on the facilitation of travel within the CSME. The first of these will be held in Dominica on Friday, September 9 and a wide cross-section of the public is expected to attend. These sessions are being facilitated by resource persons from the Secretariat and implemented with assistance provided under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).

CARICOM Secretariat Conducts Staff Development Sessions

Under the auspices of the Office of the Deputy Secretary-General, Dr Manorma Soeknandan, with assistance from the Canadian Executive Service Organisation (CESO), the CARICOM Secretariat will deliver the first training with a broad focus on writing with impact, conducted from 30 August to 9 September 2016. 

 

Participants will benefit from modules that will be theoretically and practically delivered on report writing, speech writing and writing of briefs.

 

CARICOM sympathises with Italy after earthquake

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has extended deep sympathy to the government and people of Italy following a deadly 6.2-magnitude earthquake there on Wednesday.

In a message of condolence, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said that it was the Community's hope that rescue teams were successful in their efforts to save those who survived the quake and might be trapped in the rubble.

CARICOM immensely proud of Member States’ athletes

The performance of athletes from CARICOM Member States at the just-concluded Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, underlined the “tremendous skills and talent” of the Community’s youth, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said.

The Secretary-General added that the athletes also demonstrated that the Region had the capacity to lead the world in any sphere, provided that “we apply the necessary discipline, commitment and focus”.
