It is a distinct honour and pleasure for me to celebrate International Women’s Day with our women and girls across the Community. The Day affords us the opportunity to reflect on gender equality and the advancement of women as important components of this year’s United Nation’s theme: “I Am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”.

The UWI establishes COVID-19 Task Force

Once again, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is launching a Task Force to assist with the mobilisation of the region’s public health providers to deal with an incoming virus. Four years ago, the Zika virus triggered the response; today it is COVID-19.

CARICOM to mount fact-finding mission to Haiti

Even though the situation in Haiti is complex and there are a number of views on the way forward, it cannot continue without the intervention of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit stated on Wednesday, 19 February.

Speaking at the news briefing following the conclusion of the 31st Inter-Sessional CARICOM Summit in St. Michael, Barbados, Prime Minister Skerrit said Haiti occupied Heads of Government’s attention during Wednesday morning’s caucus discussion.

National consultative process to inform development of CARICOM 2020 Strategic Plan off to a Successful Start

On Tuesday, January 11, 2020, Saint Lucia was the first CARICOM Member State to convene broad-based national consultations, which are being coordinated by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat across the Caribbean Community to inform the development of the Results-Focused Community Strategic Plan from 2020.  The consultations brought together a wide range of stakeholders from the public, private, and the not-for-profit sectors including the Youth, the Media, labour, non-governmental and civil society organisations. 

CARICOM and United Arab Emirates sign agreement to strengthen cooperation

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the side lines of the 31st Inter-Sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Barbados, Wednesday.

The MOU, signed by CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and Assistant Minister in the Government of the UAE Mr Omar Saif Ghobash, will establish a consultation and cooperation mechanism to enhance and strengthen cooperation between the two sides.

CARICOM SG commends regional response on COVID 19

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, has commended the health emergency response mechanism engineered by the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) to keep the Community free of the novel coronavirus (COVID 19).

Secretary-General LaRocque said the inter-agency collaboration that is taking place is another example of the co-ordination required to address the challenges to integration.
