ADDRESS BY HON. DR. L. ERROL CORT, MINISTER OF FINANCE AND ECONOMY (INDUSTRY AND COMMERCE), ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA, AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE TWENTIETH MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR TRADE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (COTED),  12 JANUARY 2006, GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

It is my distinct honour, on behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, to be here at this important juncture in our history, to take up the mantle of Chairmanship of this esteemed Council. I am particularly pleased, as I had the privilege, several years ago, to participate in the constructive dialogue and management of trade and economic development issues across the Region within the aegis of this Council’s predecessor.

CSME SHOULD BENEFIT ALL CITIZENS OF THE REGION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Chairman of the Twentieth Meeting of CARICOM’S Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), the Honourable Dr. Errol Cort, Minster of Finance and Economy of Antigua and Barbuda, has called for the Region’s private sector to “aggressively retool and adopt modern approaches and new business practices” to effectively operate within the new sphere of the CARICOM Single Market (CSM).

CARICOM/PANCAP COMES IN FOR PRAISE FROM THE GLOBAL FUND

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat coordinated Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS, (PANCAP), came in for praise from officials of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), popularly known as the Global Fund.

CARICOM MINISTERS INTENSIFY SINGLE MARKET TALKS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)  A packed agenda including the continued implementation of the CARICOM Single Market (CSM), the inevitable repositioning of the Region's traditional agriculture industries, and disaster mitigation, are among the major issues up for discussion by the Caribbean Community's Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).
 

CARICOM URGED TO GRASP OPPORTUNITIES FOR CLOSER INTEGRATION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) While the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is well positioned to reap the benefits of the integration movement, the Region faces many challenges which must be overcome to ensure the sustainability of a good quality of life for CARICOM nationals.

CARICOM CHAIRMAN STRESSES NEED FOR ECONOMIC ALTERNATIVES

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Patrick Manning today emphasised that the economic fallout from the diminishing returns from sugar and banana dictated that CARICOM Member States should actively explore other avenues for sustained economic activity.

COTED CONTINUES THE MARCH TO CSME

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Just days after the signalling of the launch of the CARICOM Single Market by the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Hon. Patrick Manning, CARICOM’s Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) will meet in Georgetown, Guyana to continue discussions on the full implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).
