CARICOM AGRICULTURE MINISTERS MEET IN GEORGETOWN FOR SPECIAL COTED

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) President of the Republic of Guyana and Lead Head of Government in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet with responsibility for Agriculture, His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo, today underscored the importance of the Region’s agriculture industry in reducing the growing food import bill and attaining food security for the Region.

CONTINUED BENEFIT FOR CARICOM FROM RELATIONSHIP WITH GERMANY

(CARICOM Secretariat, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The experience of Germany as a founding Member of one of the world’s most advanced regional integration arrangements, the European Union (EU), is an experience to which the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) can look for support. This message came today from CARICOM Secretary-General H.E Edwin Carrington, on the occasion of the presentation of credentials by H. E Dr Helmut Ohlraun, Germany’s Plenipotentiary Representative to the Caribbean Community.

Today is for me a very special day. It is the first opportunity to welcome the Community’s second highest organ to the new Headquarters of the Caribbean Community Secretariat, which truly befits the Community’s highest aspirations.

STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE SEVENTEENTH MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL ON THE SITUATION IN HAITI,  13 JANUARY 2006,  GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community notes the latest decision by Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council to hold the first round of Presidential and Parliamentary elections on February 7, 2006. The Community congratulates the millions of Haitian citizens who have registered and declared their intention to participate in forthcoming elections.
