This is an important event for the youth of the Caribbean and indeed for the CARICOM Community. This evening we are actually here to launch the activities of the CARICOM Commission on Youth Development, which was mandated by the Conference of Heads of Government in July 2006. It is my pleasure as the Lead Head for Youth Affairs, Gender, Culture and Sport to welcome you all to the Republic of Suriname.

CLOSER RELATIONS BETWEEN DR AND CARICOM HIGH PRIORITY

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Closer relations between the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are a priority for both parties, but more “follow through” work needed to be done to advance the process, President of the Dominican Republic, His Excellency Leonel Fernandez said.

This afternoon, the pleasure is mine to sign a Cooperation and Consultation Agreement on behalf of the CARICOM Secretariat with the International Committee of the Red Cross.

JOINT STATEMENT OF THE FOURTH GENERAL MEETING BETWEEN THE SECRETARIATS OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY (CARICOM) AND THE ORGANISATION OF AMERICAN STATES (OAS),  2 MARCH 2007, TURKEYEN, GREATER GEORGETOWN, GUYANA

1. The Fourth General Meeting between the Secretariats of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Organisation of American States (OAS) was convened at the CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana on 2 March 2007. The CARICOM delegation was led by His Excellency Edwin Carrington, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community. The OAS delegation was led by the Secretary General, His Excellency Jose Miguel Insulza. This is the first time that the respective Secretaries General are leading their delegations to a meeting of the two Secretariats.

CARICOM SECRETARY-GENERAL MEETS RIO SUMMIT HEADS, DELEGATES

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) His Excellency Edwin Carrington has held several meetings on the margins of the 19th Summit of the Rio Group of States now underway in Georgetown.

CARICOM TO LAUNCH COMMISSION ON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM Commission on Youth Development (CCoYD) will be officially launched on Monday 5 March, 2007 in a ceremony at the Krasnapolsky Hotel, Paramaribo, Suriname at 7:00PM.

CARICOM, ICRC SIGN COOPERATION ARRANGEMENT ON INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) signed a Cooperation Arrangement on International Humanitarian Law on March 1, 2007. The Arrangement will facilitate the promotion, ratification and implementation by CARICOM member states of the major international humanitarian law instruments.
