​It is my privilege to bring you greetings and deliver brief remarks on behalf of the CARICOM Secretariat, on the occasion of this CICAD-CARICOM Regional Meeting with Caribbean Universities on the Drug Phenomenon.

CARICOM’S SUPPORT TO HAITI REMAINS STRONG

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), at the just concluded Twenty-Second Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, re-emphasised their commitment to Haiti.
CARICOM leaders at the Summit, held in Grand Anse, Grenada, signalled that the Community’s support to Haiti remained “strong,” as the country emerged from the rubble of the 12 January 2010 earthquake and the recent outbreak of cholera.

CARICOM SUPPORTS HAITI OVERTURES TO FIFA, CONCACAF

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government have indicated their support of Haiti’s proposal to Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) and Confederation of North Central American and Caribbean Associations of Football (CONCACAF) for special consideration to contest the under-17 World Cup finals.

​I am sure I speak for all my colleagues in expressing appreciation to Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, the government and people of Grenada for the warm hospitality we have received and the fine arrangements that have been made for this conference. Grenada is the spice island of the Caribbean but it is much more than that and we are enjoying all that this piece of paradise has to offer.

I offer my congratulations to Prime Minister Thomas on assuming the chairmanship of CARICOM. In his calm and steady hands the leadership of our movement is in steady hands.

​CARICOM citizens, ladies and gentlemen, I am indeed happy to welcome all of you to our spice isle on this occasion; our 22nd inter-sessional meeting. The people of Grenada join with me in extending our characteristic spice isle hospitality that some of you have been accustomed to. We do hope that you enjoy and savor the Grenadian experience.

DEMOCRACY AT WORK IN HAITI SAYS JOINT OAS-CARICOM ELECTORAL MISSION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Joint Organisation of American States-CARICOM Electoral Observation Mission (JEOM) has said that the peaceful acceptance of the final results of the 28 November elections in Haiti was illustrative of “democracy at work” in the French Speaking CARICOM Member State.
