CARICOM MEETS WITH IDB TO REVIEW COOPERATION PROGRAM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown) A team from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat met with a Mission from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on Thursday (12 April) to explore priority areas of cooperation and funding for regional development and to initiate dialogue toward shaping a strategy for future interventions in the Caribbean region.

HIV PREVENTION TECHNOCRATS TO CHART THE WAY FORWARD

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) “Sexual and reproductive Health and HIV services provided to most at-risk populations across the Region is not nationally led or driven and governments appear to have no clear strategy for responding to the needs of this population”. This is the finding of one of two studies recently commissioned by the Pan Caribbean Partnership Against HIV/AIDS (PANCAP) to ascertain the quantity and quality of available gender specific HIV services for key populations in the Region.

CHAIRMAN LAUDS WORK OF CARICOM SECRETARIAT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Staff of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat came in for high praise from Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government, His Excellency Desiré Delano Bouterse, President of the Republic of Suriname, who visited the Georgetown-based Secretariat on Tuesday.

President Bouterse, who chairs the Community from January to June, held discussions with Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, CARICOM Secretary-General, and later interacted with staff members of the Secretariat.

TRAINING BEGINS FOR BORDER CONTROL STAFF

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Immigration officers within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have begun training sessions aimed at improving the treatment of nationals at ports of entry in the Region.

Ministers of Trade of CARICOM were apprised of the development at the 34th meeting the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) which concluded Friday in Georgetown, Guyana.

FIRST ISSUE OF EPA NEWSLETTER FOR 2012 PUBLISHED

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM Secretariat-based Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) Implementation Unit on 2 April published the first Issue for 2012 of its flagship newsletter, EPA Implementation Bulletin. It is a Special Issue that brings together the perspectives of a cross-section of organizations that have a stake in the development of Coalitions of Service Industries in the Region, with a view to pointing to their critical coordinating role in positioning their stakeholders to harness agreements like the EPA.

SG ACCREDITS NEW GRENADIAN AMBASSADOR TO CARICOM
