CARICOM Chair Wants Region to Collaborate, Innovate, Act for a resilient, digitally transformed Community

The Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada, wants the Region to collaborate boldly, innovate fearlessly, and act accountably to take advantage of the digital revolution, and accelerate regional integration.

Prime Minister Mitchell, Chair of CARICOM, and lead Head of Government with responsibility for Science and Technology in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet, made the call while delivering the keynote address at the Connected Caribbean Summit in Miami, Florida, 10 December.

CDEMA, UNICEF sign MOU at 13th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management

The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and UNICEF Latin America and the Caribbean have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at reducing vulnerability and building resilience across the Caribbean region. This partnership, formalised by Jean-Benoit Manhes, UNICEF Representative for the Eastern Caribbean, and Elizabeth Riley, Executive Director of CDEMA, will focus on strengthening child-centered disaster management in collaboration with local, national, and regional authorities.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - As Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), it is a distinct honour to commemorate the Fifty-Second Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between CARICOM Member States and Cuba. Today, we recall that symbolic and bold act of Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago on 8 December 1972, of establishing diplomatic ties with Cuba despite prevailing global political tensions, thereby ushering an exemplary partnership.

Statisticians recommend steps for more efficient census-taking

Directors of Statistics and other stakeholders in the field have made recommendations to create a more efficient process for the conduct of censuses.

The recommendations to improve the mammoth undertaking – a complete count of the population - include initiating the planning process earlier; shortening the census questionnaire and employing different modes of enumeration such as self-enumeration through computer-assisted, web interviewing techniques; and ensuring robust public relations campaigns are executed.

Saint Lucia ratifies BBNJ Agreement

Another CARICOM Member State has ratified the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement).

Saint Lucia deposited its Instruments of Ratification on 26 November 2024, joining Belize and Barbados in ratifying the BBNJ that was agreed upon in March 2023 and opened for signature in September 2023.
