Secretary General LaRocque outlines successes of CARICOM over the past 40 years.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque on Thursday outlined that there were a number of successes in health, education, youth development and other areas in CARICOM over the past 40 years.
The Secretary General was delivering a distinguished lecture at the University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago.

I am honoured to be here with you this afternoon at the invitation of Professor Sankat to deliver this lecture and begin the series of Distinguished Lectures on our integration movement.  It is a discourse that is much needed and if my understanding is correct, I look forward to hearing from some of the Region’s iconic figures on this theme.

CARICOM, SPAIN to cooperate on US$1.1M Regional Cooperation Programme for 2013-2014

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Spain will collaborate on a citizen security project that will focus on youth and gender issues, as well as youth entrepreneurship .
The CARICOM-Spain Citizen Security Project was signed off on Wednesday 25 September, 2013, during discussions between representatives of the CARICOM Secretariat and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), to formalise approvals for new regional interventions for the 2013-2014 period.

It is my pleasure to welcome you all on behalf of the Directorate of Human and Social Development and indeed the entire CARICOM Secretariat. I wish in particular to thank you Minister and your staff at the Ministry of Health for making the arrangements for hosting this meeting. I also wish to express great pleasure that The Hon. Orville London Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly has graced this opening ceremony with his presence.

CARICOM deplores threatened economic boycott of The Bahamas

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Friday said it deplored the threatened economic boycott of The Bahamas and attacks on that country’s economic interests in Florida by interest groups based in Miami.

A Statement endorsed by the Fifth Special Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) reads as follows:

CARICOM appeals to international community to support review of `graduation’

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has appealed to the international community to support the Region’s call for the immediate review of the criteria used by multilateral financial institutions (MFIs) and some development partners to graduate small highly indebted middle income countries (SHIMICS) from access to concessional resources.

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) It is a great pleasure and privilege for me to be here with all of you at the Closing Ceremony of the Eleventh Caribbean Festival of Arts and to deliver these brief remarks on behalf of the Secretary General of the Caribbean Community, H.E Mr. Irwin LaRocque.  This has been a very vibrant and exciting ten days of sharing and showcasing the many dimensions of our rich Caribbean culture, and that of our many visiting contingents of artists from UNASUR and other friends from outside our region.
