Caribbean Ministers Give Medical Laboratories an Urgent Assignment

The 19th Special Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) held in Washington DC, 27-28 September, has endorsed an initiative which the Caribbean Med Labs Foundation (CMLF) is facilitating under its CARICOM-PANCAP Global Fund Programme, aimed at transforming the health laboratory environment. This is a crucial development for Public Health in the region, as in the face of increasing demands, Caribbean medical laboratories are being asked to do much more with less.

As Chairman of the Caribbean Community, (CARICOM) I join the people of the Caribbean in expressing profound disappointment over the current state of affairs of West Indian cricket.
The abrupt termination of the tour of India is a matter of deep distress, particularly as it has damaged the reputation of West Indian cricket and disrupted long-standing arrangements by other countries and cricket authorities. 

US Ambassador Birx to deliver keynote address to PANCAP 13th AGM

Chile to multiply contributions to the Region

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     In presenting his Letters of Credence to Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, new Ambassador of Chile to CARICOM, H.E. Fernando Schmidt said the Caribbean will benefit next year when his country multiples its contribution to the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP).

CARICOM, Turkey to strengthen trade links

CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)      The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Turkey will continue to strengthen their relations with the accreditation of Ambassador Sulé Oztunç, as new Plenipotentiary Representative of Turkey to the Community.
In accepting her credentials on Tuesday, CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said the occasion signaled Turkey’s growing commitment to ensure “the immense potential” of its relationship with CARICOM was “fully realized.

P.J Patterson passes “Reparations Torch” to Prime Minister Gaston Browne at Second Regional Conference on Reparations

Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, in a rousing address to the Opening Ceremony of the Second Regional Conference on Reparations in Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday night, gave the charge and entrusted the continuity of the pursuit of Reparations for Native Genocide and Slavery, to the Hon. Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda.

CAHFSA becomes operational

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA) is now operational. A Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lindley Collins, was appointed recently, Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Dr. Manorma Soeknandan announced on Wednesday.

“We trust that we will soon be able to make more progress with the appointment of additional core staff,” Ambassador Soeknandan said at the formal opening ceremony of the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2014 in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Regional, international organisations in family farmers’ corner

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Key regional and international organisations have pledged their commitment to improving the lot of family farmers across the Caribbean region through collaboration with each other.

In their remarks at the formal opening ceremony of the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) in Paramaribo, Suriname on Wednesday 8 October, representatives of regional and international organisations lamented that family farmers were unheralded, even though they were playing a critical role in the agriculture sector.
