Ministerial Joint Statement between Japan and CARICOM

The Fourth Japan-CARICOM Ministerial-Level Conference was held in Tokyo on 15th November 2014 with the participation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and other Heads of Delegations of the Member States of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Fumio Kishida and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana, The Honourable Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, served as Co-chairs.

Workshop on trade in environmentally sensitive commodities ends

In an effort to enhance knowledge about international laws on environmentally sensitive commodities in Grenada, the CARICOM Secretariat hosted a workshop for Customs Officers and Border Control Officials on November 11-13, 2014.

The main objective was to enhance Grenada’s capacity to implement multilateral environmental agreements, and to improve its management environment and natural resources.

Greetings and apologies from the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community – Ambassador Irwin LaRocque who is unable to attend but sends his best wishes for a successful forum.

I am delighted that you are here in Barbados for the Opening of this event. The Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF) is a biennial renewable energy and energy efficiency forum that has been held in the region since 2008.

CARICOM and Japan Further Strengthens Relationship

(CARICOM Secretarait, Turkeyen, Georgetown, Guyana)     CARICOM and Japan relationship will go a step further this week, when CARICOM Foreign Ministers meet with their Japanese counterpart, the Honourable Fumio Kishida, at the Fourth CARICOM-Japan Ministerial Meeting, on 15 November 2014, in Tokyo, Japan. 

The CARICOM side will be led by the Honourable Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guyana and Chairperson of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR).

Key agenda items were strengthening the operation and effectiveness of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and the free movement and the facilitation of travel; engagement with the private sector; external economic and trade relations; and the strategic direction for growth and development of the Region.

CARICOM, Brazil trade has tripled in a few years: Brazil envoy to CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Trade between Brazil and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has tripled in “a few years” since the thrust by Brazil to open resident embassies in every CARICOM Member State.

This was relayed by newly accredited Ambassador of Brazil to CARICOM, H.E. Lineu Pupo De Paula, as he presented his credentials to CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, last Tuesday, at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

COTED to engage private sector on more continuous basis
