Energy, Security and Competitiveness commitments: CARICOM-US Summit outcomes

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) moves forward from the recent CARICOM-US summit with seed funding for a sustainable energy programme, a commitment to help fast-track ICT development, and continued support for established US-CARICOM security partnerships, among other key initiatives.
 

African Union Commission seeks best practices from CARICOM Secretariat

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has described as “important and historic” a working visit to the Secretariat’s headquarters by a team from the African Union Commission (AUC).

The three-day visit, which began on Wednesday, forms part of a comparative study of various multilateral and inter-governmental organisations being conducted by the AU delegation.

First, I thank the Government of Panama and President Juan Carlos Varela for their warm hospitality.  My delegation and I are honoured to participate in this historic conference in which the entire Americas is represented and certainly to include the delegation of Cuba headed by His Excellency Raul Castro Ruz.

My visit to your beautiful country has been a kind of home coming.

Of course, the relationship between Panama and countries of the Caribbean go back a very long way.

Mr. President, the Heads of Government of CARICOM attach great significance to this CARICOM-USA Summit.
 

Joint Press Release issued by Forum on the Future of the Caribbean Partner Institutions Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. issued April 9, 2015

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Regional and international leaders will gather in Port of Spain from 5 to 7 May 2015 to tackle challenges to Caribbean development and identify strategies for securing a sustainable future.  The Forum on the Future of the Caribbean is being co-hosted by The University of the West Indies (UWI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago in collaboration with United Nations System and regional inter-governmental partners, and The Commonwealth.

CARICOM Chair wants concrete action from US-CARICOM Summit

The encounter between the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the President of the United States (US), Barack Obama, should mark a new and positive beginning for CARICOM-US relations, according to Chair of CARICOM, the Hon. Perry Christie.
