Crime and Security
The Programme promotes Social Justice through programmes designed for justice sector reform, to combat corruption, and to assist vulnerable populations at risk of recruitment into criminal organisations.
It supports the development of effective and humane crime prevention strategies and ensures the execution of the mandates of Heads of Government with respect to crime and violence reduction.
The Programme currently supports addressing Crime and Violence as a Public Health Issue as well as the development of a CARICOM Regional Migration Policy.
· CARICOM Crime Prevention and Social Development Action Plan
The Plan treats crime and violence from a developmental perspective. The fundamental objective of the Action Plan is to prevent and reduce levels of violence and crime in Member States through a cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary approach focused on groups at risk of engaging in violent behaviour and criminal activities, already exposed to high levels of violence and victimisation, and groups in conflict with the law, in particular children and youth as well as institutional responses to crime and violence from a prevention perspective.
· CARICOM Crime and Security Strategy
The Strategy identifies and prioritises the common security risks and threats which CARICOM is facing now, and likely to face in the future. It articulates an integrated and cohesive security framework to confront these challenges, and will therefore guide the coordinated internal and external crime and security policies adopted by CARICOM Member States, under their respective legal frameworks to the fullest extent.
To ensure a safe and secure environment for all citizens of the Caribbean Community.
Reduced levels of crime and violence and enhanced regional capacity to address transnational threats.
