Caribbean Trade Ministers Plan For WTO Ministerial

CHRIST CHURCH, BARBADOS – Caribbean Trade Ministers meeting in Barbados yesterday (November 19), in preparation for the Sixth World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference, which will take place in Hong Kong December 13 to 18, emphasized that unless development issues are given prominence in the negotiating agenda, the Ministerial is not likely to end in agreement. This is fundamental for small, vulnerable Caribbean countries. The development dimension of the Doha Round is vitally important for the Caribbean, but continues to be neglected in the negotiating agenda.

CARICOM/INDIA ICT PROJECT LAUNCHED

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) A new line of Information and Communication Technolgy (ICT), including an infokiosk, will be installed at the CARICOM Secretariat's New Headquarters Building at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, Guyana, by July 30. The ICT installation project is being undertaken by a team of technical experts from TATA Infotech Limited of India, and is in keeping with an earlier commitment by the Government of India to computerise the New Headquarters Building which staff are set to occupy by July 2005.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE FROM INDIA FOR CARICOM

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana)   Officials of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat today began a week of discussions with representatives of TATA INFOTEC Limited on assistance being provided by the Government of India for the computerisation of the new CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters, which will be inaugurated on Saturday, 19 February 2005.

ICT, CULTURAL COOPERATION UNDERLINES CARICOM/INDIA RELATIONS

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The Sixteenth Inter-Sessional Meeting of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which opens in Paramaribo, Suriname on Wednesday, 16 February 2005, is being used as the backdrop for the exploration of new areas of cooperation between CARICOM Member States and several countries outside the Region.

CARICOM HOLDS TALKS WITH UN HAITI ENVOY

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ministers of Foreign Affairs now in Suriname for the 16th Inter-Sessional Meeting of Heads of Government of the Community will have an exchange with United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Haiti, Mr. Juan Gabriel Valdes, on the eve of the Inter-sessional meeting to discuss the situation in Haiti.

JOINT COMMISSION TO ADVANCE CARICOM/INDIA COOPERATION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana)    Relations between Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries and India are poised to deepen with new projects planned in the areas of health, disaster management, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) among other technical and economic spheres of cooperation.

CARICOM MISSION CONTINUES DISCUSSIONS IN INDIA

The CARICOM Mission to India led by the Hon. K.D. Knight, current Chairman of the Community Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Jamaica continued its five-day visit with stops at a number of Hi-Tech organizations in Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh (State). The Delegation, which includes Secretary-General Edwin Carrington and Special Assistant Glenda Itiaba, met with representatives of the e-Seva Centre – a one stop agency designed to integrate, simplify and upgrade the provision of government services to the wider population.

CARICOM MISSION STRENGTHENS CARICOM-INDIA RELATIONS

The CARICOM Mission to India, led by the Chairman of the Community Council of Ministers Hon. K.D. Knight, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica and including the CARICOM Secretary General His Excellency Edwin Carrington and his Special Assistant, Ms. Glenda Itiaba, got underway on Tuesday, 25 November with discussions in Delhi, with the Hon. Yashwant Sinha, Minister of External Affairs of India and other representatives of the Indian Government.
