Grenada to receive additional ICT support from India

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (GIS) -- India's High Commissioner-designate to Grenada, Malay Mishra, has pledged his country’s continued support to Grenada in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

“India attaches great importance to her relations with Grenada,” he explained. “Under India’s Economic and Technical Cooperation Programme (ITEC), India has continued to assist Grenada in its capacity building in the IT sector.”

Malay Mishra, who was in Grenada to present his Letter of Credence to Governor General Sir Carlyle Glean, said India’s assistance in setting up an ICT centre of excellence in Grenada has been part of several initiatives to forge greater bonds of cooperation between the countries.

He said, “India has been providing training to nominees from Grenada in various fields, ranging from IT, management, tourism, agriculture and small business.”

Governor General Glean, in accepting the High Commissioner’s credentials, commended him on India’s assistance to Grenada.

Sir Carlyle acknowledged India’s contributions in Information Technology to Grenada.

“Grenada continues to benefit from short-term training programmes in Information Technology and Diplomacy under the ITEC programme, with the slots being increased from five to eight,” he said. “Also, Dr Anurag Sinha, an ICT expert, has been working with government since October 2005.”

Grenada and India first established diplomatic ties on October 1, 1975. Since then, the two countries have maintained cordial relations through the regular accreditation of India’s High Commissioner to Grenada based in Trinidad.
