Barbados gets ready for CARIFESTA

(Barbados Today) Barbados is pumping millions into hosting the 13th edition of the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA) this summer, just weeks after this year’s Crop Over Festival, with renovations to performing venues on the cards and social media being used as a key tool to drive people here.

Defining Guyana’s role in CARICOM Energy thrust

Guyana is firmly committed to pursuing the path of renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE), and has taken initiatives that testify to that obligation. The country has embraced the concept of a Green Economy, which is intended to provide a holistic, integrated approach to national development. This encompasses areas such as effective waste management, efficient water management, clean transportation, energy efficiency and energy conservation, and renewable energy usage, according to Guyana’s Public Infrastructure Minister, Mr. David Patterson.

First Marine Climate Change Report Card for Caribbean in works

(CRFM)—The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) has been working with other Caribbean agencies and the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS), a marine science and technology agency sponsored by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs. The agencies are preparing the first ever marine climate change report card for the Caribbean, under the Commonwealth Marine Economies Programme funded by the UK government.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) joins the rest of the world in commemorating World AIDS Day 2016, which is being observed under the Theme ‘Hands up for #HIV Prevention’.  This Theme calls attention to the crucial need for us to refocus our efforts on combination prevention that includes treatment, behaviour change, communication, and provision of social protection to address individuals’ vulnerability.
 

CARICOM lauds Barbados’ contribution to regionalism

Barbados’ contributions to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have produced positive dividends, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said, in marking the Member State’s golden jubilee of independence. 

 

In a message of congratulations to the government and people of Barbados, Ambassador LaRocque said the Community would not be what it is today without the steady and sterling industry of Barbados.

 

CARICOM Energy Month gets going

CARIBBEAN citizens will, over the next few weeks, have the opportunity to get in the know on how to cut their fuel costs while exchanging ideas  on solutions to the energy challenges facing the Caribbean.
