Act with urgency on energy transition, Region urged at close of CSEF V

The Fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF) concluded in Nassau, The Bahamas on Thursday following two days of robust discussions centred on the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) transition to more efficient and clean energy. Less talk, more action

While the dialogue and interaction that engagements such as the Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF) provide are necessary, there is need the creation of a health balance between talk and action.

This was one of the messages Organisation of American States (OAS) representative, Ms. Kim Osborne took to the Fifth CSEF now underway in Nassau, The Bahamas. The Forum officially opened on Monday evening and began panel discussions Tuesday morning.

Agriculture, climate change, renewable energy to benefit as IDB carves out $13B for lending

NASSAU, The Bahamas, Jan 23 2017 – The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said it will be lending US$13 billion over the coming year and a significant portion of that amount has been earmarked for agriculture, climate change and renewable energy projects.

Speaking here Monday night at the opening of the fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF), Executive Director of the IDB Jerry Butler noted that the issue of energy and the issue of renewable energy have been of constant focus for the institution.

Fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum Opens Today

The Fifth Caribbean Sustainable Energy Forum (CSEF V) opens in Nassau, The Bahamas, on Monday, 23 January, 2017, under the theme ‘Future Energy 2027’. Prime Minister of The Bahamas, the Hon. Perry Christie, will deliver the keynote address at the ceremony following remarks by representatives the German Agency for International Cooperation, the Government of Canada, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the United States Government, the Organisation of American States (OAS), and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat.

Full, frank discussion needed on CSME – PM Stuart

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart believes the time has come to have “full and frank discussions” on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Mr. Stuart, who is the Lead CARICOM Head with Responsibility for CSME, expressed this view recently during a meeting with several CARICOM officials, led by Secretary-General, Irwin LaRocque, at Ilaro Court.

CSME training for Guyana’s secondary school teachers

Secondary school teachers in Guyana are set to be more knowledgeable about the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). This is due to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat’s hosting of a two-day CSME training workshop from Tuesday, January 17 at the Church View International Hotel in Berbice. Approximately thirty (30) teachers will be attending the workshop which is funded under the European Union’s 10^th European Development Fund CSME and Economic Integration Programme.

CARICOM, Serbia formalise diplomatic relations

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of Serbia on Wednesday formalised diplomatic relations with the first Ambassador accredited to CARICOM from the south eastern European country.

CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, accepted the credentials of His Excellency Djerdj Matković at a simple ceremony at the Headquarters of the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, on 11 January 2017, welcoming him to the “Community’s network of friends.”

The Thirty-Ninth Meeting of the Community Council of Ministers opened on 9 January 2017, at the CARICOM headquarters, Guyana, under the chairmanship of Guyana’s Vice President and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon.
