BRADES, Montserrat, CMC - Montserrat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom Department for Transport (DfT) as it seeks to put in place international standards for the regulation of the maritime industry. Montserrat is a member of the British Red Ensign Group and operates as a Category Two Red Ensign (British) Registry, registering ships of up to 150 gross tons (GRT) and pleasure vessels of up to 400 GRT. Comptroller of Customs Peter W.A White, who is also the Registrar of ships in Montserrat, said the MoU would see formal assistance given to Montserrat to help put in place international standards for the regulation of the maritime industry.
