BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – The Belize government says it has launched a “vigorous” investigation into the into the circumstances surrounding the near total destruction of the Maya archaeological site known as Noh Mul in northern Belize. Police are also investigating the matter and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the National Institute of Culture and History and the Belize Tourism Board have expressed outraged at the destruction of the Noh Mul archaeological site in the Orange Walk district. Pictures broadcast on a local television network over the weekend showed the destruction of the Noh Mul site, which means Big Hill and the Institute of Archaeology has since launched an investigation into the destruction.
