VAT on Digital Trade in the Caribbean: Insights from The Bahamas and Barbados

The Caribbean Tax Outreach Programme, led by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) alongside regional and international partners, brings together tax officials from the Caribbean to discuss and share experiences on regional tax priorities through a series of events. 

The second virtual workshop of the series gathered 254 participants from 13 Caribbean jurisdictions to discuss regional trends in VAT on digital trade and services. Ms Felicia Ellie, Comptroller of the Inland Revenue Department of Saint Lucia/President of the Caribbean Organisation of Tax Administrators (COTA), delivered the event's opening remarks. The Bahamas, represented by Ms LaPaige Gardiner, Manager at the Department of Inland Revenue and Barbados, represented by Ms Kafeisha Francis, Policy Manager at Barbados Revenue Authority, shared their experience in implementing VAT on digital trade and services and explored insights on digital platforms in economic sectors such as tourism and real estate.
