Highlights from the Opening Ceremony of the Second CARICOM-India Summit | 20 November 2024 | Georgetown, Guyana

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - Thirteen CARICOM countries met India’s Prime Minister, the Hon. Narendra Modi in Georgetown, Guyana on Wednesday, 20 November 2024, in an historic Summit, the first stand-alone Meeting between the Heads of Government of the two sides in a CARICOM Member State.

In the discussions, CARICOM and India agreed to strengthen economic and commercial relations and cooperation in the areas listed below. A Joint Statement was issued following the Meeting.

  • Energy and Infrastructure
  • Agriculture and Food Security
  • Health and Pharmaceuticals, and
  • Technology and Innovation

Here are some excerpts from the remarks by the CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett; Chair of CARICOM and Prime Minister of Grenada, Hon. Dickon Mitchell; President of Guyana, H.E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali; and Prime Minister of India, Hon. Narendra Modi, which were delivered during the Opening Ceremony.
