(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Mexico have signed an agreement identifying future areas of cooperation between the two sides.

The agreement was signed after the Fourth Meeting of the CARICOM-Mexico Joint Commission on 16-17 March at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

The meeting agreed to reinforce collaboration during Phase IV of the CARICOM-Mexico Technical Cooperation Programme for the period 2006-2008 which will consist of seven projects in several priority areas. These included disaster management, tax policy, energy conservation, regional statistics, Spanish language training and technical education.

The Delegations also ratified Phase IV of the CARICOM-Mexico Technical Cooperation Program 2006-2008 which will be financed in accordance with the administrative and financial norms established in the Agreement signed between the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and CARICOM, with the collaboration of the Government of Mexico.

It was agreed that the fifth Meeting of the Mexico-CARICOM Joint Commission would be held in Mexico City in two years.
