One of some 150 young artists from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States will carve his or her name in CARICOM's history by submitting the winning design for the cover of a book on the regional integration movement being published by the CARICOM Secretariat.

Young artists throughout the Community were encouraged to showcase their skills in the competition for the cover design, which was launched at the CXC Headquarters in Barbados on 9 January this year, and was advertised throughout the Region.

CARICOM Secretary-General Edwin Carrington has explained that the book, entitled Our Caribbean Community, will provide young people with information about the history of CARICOM and the efforts at shaping our integration movement over the years. He hopes that the book will assist these future leaders in carrying forward the process of Community building.

Competitors have the chance to win one of four prizes. These are: the first prize of a laptop computer with printer/scanner, a trip to a CARICOM Member State and a copy of the book; a second prize, comprising a laptop computer and a copy of the book; a third prize, which is a trip to the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, and a copy of the book; and a fourth prize, a copy of the book.The competition is being sponsored by Banks DIH of Guyana, BWIA West Indies Airways, Courts Trinidad, the Royal Bank Financial Group and Unit Trust Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago and the Government of Canada, through a project with the CARICOM Secretariat.

The winners of the competition will be selected by a panel of judges comprising Mr. Ricardo Redman, an experienced graphic designer from Barbados, book publisher Mr. Ian Randle of Jamaica and the CARICOM Secretary-General.

The winners will be announced in April.
