(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) His Excellency Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has signaled the Secretariat’s readiness to assist in preparations for the upcoming Fifth Summit of the Americas. The Summit will be held April 17-19 2009 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago under the theme ‘Securing Our Citizens’ Future by Promoting Human Prosperity, Energy Security and Environmental Sustainability’. The Summit of the Americas brings together 34 Hemispheric Heads of State and Government. “This prestigious event is being held in the Caribbean for the first time and in a CARICOM Member State. The Secretariat reiterates its readiness to assist in this enterprise wherever it can,” the Secretary-General said at the opening of the Twenty-Third Meeting of the Community Council of Ministers at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana.
