(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) His Excellency Edwin Carrington, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is expected to meet with United Nations (UN) Secretary General His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon at UN Headquarters next week.

Mr. Carrington will lead a delegation from the CARICOM Secretariat to the Fifth General Meeting of the United Nations System and CARICOM to be held at UN Headquarters in New York, USA on 9-10 February.

Her Excellency Lolita Applewhaite, Deputy Secretary-General of CARICOM, told a press conference at CARICOM Headquarters, Turkeyen, Guyana yesterday that the meeting would discuss strategic collaboration between the two organizations. It is expected to cover key developments in the Region including progress on the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy.

Realising sustainable development, ICT4D, capacity development, governance and security, and agreeing a strategic development framework plan informed by CARICOM priorities are among the matters to be discussed.

Both Secretaries-General will address the opening session.
