(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has maintained the momentum in the wake of the recently concluded Thirtieth Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, held in Georgetown, Guyana.

The CARICOM Secretariat, with the support of its international development partners, has coordinated three meetings this week, two in Antigua and Barbuda, and the other in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

More than a hundred representatives of the Services Sector in the Caribbean are meeting in Antigua and Barbuda, for the Regional Services Symposium, being held under the theme, Services: A Road Map for the Future. The Services Symposium has been designed to chart a more structured approach to the development of the Services Sector within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). It has brought together Chief Executive Officers of large, medium and small sized enterprises operating in the Sector, international experts, representatives of the academic community and senior public service officials.

The Symposium has been organised by the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Simultaneously with the Services Symposium, the Caribbean Forum of African Caribbean and Pacific States (CARIFORUM) is meeting with counterparts from the European Community, also in Antigua and Barbuda, on 18 July. The two parties will hold a Dialogue on Regional Co-operation and Integration.

Prior to the session with the EC, the CARIFORUM will hold a two day preparatory meeting. CARIFORUM comprises the 14 independent states of CARICOM, the Dominican Republic and Cuba.

Meanwhile, the Office of the General Counsel within the CARICOM Secretariat, with the support of the United Nations Treaty Unit, is hosting the CARICOM/UN Seminar on Treaty Law and Practice in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The three-day Seminar which began on Wednesday July 15, engages legal practitioners from across the Region on the Practice and Domestic Implementation of the Treaty Obligation of CARICOM Member States under the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas.

The Seminar is featuring presentations on topics including the Drafting of Final Clauses in Multilateral and Regional Treaties; Treaties and Domestic Law - Implementation at the National Level; and, the Original Jurisdiction of the Caribbean Court of Justice and the Developing Caribbean Jurisprudence.
