CARICOM and United Arab Emirates sign agreement to strengthen cooperation

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the side lines of the 31st Inter-Sessional Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government in Barbados, Wednesday.

The MOU, signed by CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and Assistant Minister in the Government of the UAE Mr Omar Saif Ghobash, will establish a consultation and cooperation mechanism to enhance and strengthen cooperation between the two sides.

CARICOM and the UAE will seek to, among other things, expand trade and investment flows; promote investment and tourism; foster entrepreneurial, scientific, technological and personnel exchanges; collaborate in development cooperation programmes and projects; and foster cooperation in the field of natural disasters.
