CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC - Opposition Leader Stephenson King has written to Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy seeking clarification on an exclusive license granted to a United States businessman, Jack Grynberg, to carry out oil exploration in St. Lucia waters. King wants to know whether Dame Pearlette had issued the license in keeping with the provisions of the Minerals (Vesting) Act or whether or not someone else had issued the license in violation of the constitution. Grynberg is seeking damages estimated at US$500 million after accusing the authorities of a “breach of contract,” based on a license he claimed had been issued to him and which affords him sole rights to explore for oil in local waters.
