Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The CARICOM Secretariat is partnering with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNECLAC) and the United Nations Population fund (UNFPA) for the Caribbean Forum on Population, Migration and Development.

The Forum, scheduled for 9-10 July 2013, at the International Convention Centre, is part of an Intra-African Caribbean Pacific (ACP) Migration Project, supported by the European Union to build capacity in six ACP regions and 12 pilot countries within the ACP to address issues related to migratory flows, focusing on increasing its value to development. Among the beneficiaries, two CARICOM Member States, Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago are pilot countries, with the CARICOM Secretariat functioning as the focal point for the project implementation in the Region.

Tuesday’s Forum will combine two important processes: 1) regional dialogue on migration and development, to inform the Region’s position at the UN High Level Dialogue on International Migration and Development, scheduled for October 2013 in New York; and 2) the Caribbean’s preparation for a comprehensive review of the Cairo Programme of Action on Population and Development (ICPD), 20 years after its adoption. The Forum is expected to produce an outcome document that will serve as a Road Map for both national and sub-regional actions.

Against this backdrop, the CARICOM Secretariat is pleased to invite the media to cover the opening ceremony of the Forum.
