(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque will pay an official visit to Jamaica from Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 June 2012.
The Secretary-General will be meeting with the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Portia Simpson-Miller on the first day of his visit which is his tenth to Member States since assuming office last August. Ambassador La Rocque will also have discussions with Senator the Honourable A. J. Nicholson, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and Honourable Anthony Hylton, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, during his stay.
While in Jamaica, The Secretary-General will attend the ceremony at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) on Wednesday evening to mark the opening of the UWI Regional Headquarters Building. On the following morning he will pay a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Nigel Harris.
On Friday 29 June he will be the guest at the breakfast series, Meet the Prime Minister, hosted by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) at the Pegasus Hotel and on that day will also meet with the staff of the Office of Trade Negotiations, a department within the CARICOM Secretariat. To round off his engagements he will pay a courtesy call on Capt. Gregory Fox, Coordinator, Caribbean Aviation Safety and Security Oversight System (CASSOS) an institution of the Community.
Ambassador LaRocque departs Jamaica on 30 June for the 33rd Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community and a series of meetings preceding it beginning on 2 July in Saint Lucia.
