The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has congratulated Suriname on its 40th Anniversary of Independence, which it celebrates on 25 November 2015.
Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque in a congratulatory message to President Desiré Bouterse described as remarkable, the country’s progress over the 40 years, noting that it was no doubt
supported by the creativity derived from its diverse culture.
He said the Community has also benefited from Suriname’s contribution to the advancement of regional integration efforts, including Suriname’s leadership in the pursuit of community development and cultural cooperation objectives.

“Excellency:
It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Caribbean Community, to convey congratulations to the Government and People of Suriname on the momentous occasion of the 40th Anniversary of our country’s Independence on 25 November 2015.
Your country’s progress during the period has been remarkable, no doubt supported by the creativity derived from its diverse cultures. The strength of that harmony in diversity will no doubt continue to assist in driving the future development of Suriname.
The Community has benefitted from Suriname’s contributions to the advancement of regional integration efforts, inclusive of Suriname’s leadership in the pursuit of community development and cultural cooperation objectives. We look forward to continuing our work together, as we confront many present and future challenges.
Excellency, I join with the Caribbean Community in extending best wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of Suriname and its people.
