Deputy Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Manorma Soeknandan has called for a more focused approach at the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED).
At the Meeting of the Alliance for Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Rural Milieu at the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2014 on Wednesday, the Deputy Secretary-General recommended a consideration of concrete outputs of items on the agenda of the Ministerial Meeting. A special meeting for the COTED on agriculture will be held on Friday. Officials met Tuesday to prepare for the Meeting.
Her call resonated with participants at the Alliance Meeting who recommended the establishment of evaluation and monitoring mechanisms to track the progress of decisions that are taken at the CWAs.
The Alliance Meeting and the special session of COTED are staples of the yearly agricultural event that is being held in Paramaribo, Suriname, this year. His Excellency Desi Bouterse, President of Suriname, will formally open the CWA on Wednesday afternoon.
