The Caribbean Community in 2013 observed its 40th anniversary with Heads of Government returning to the Community’s cradle at Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago, for celebratory activities that included a rededication to the principles of the founding Treaty of Chaguaramas.
The March 2014 edition of the CARICOM View offers an insight into the activities of the 40th anniversary, and highlights the strong integration sentiments of the Heads of Government of the four founding Member States – Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
The edition also contains the 40th anniversary Distinguished Lecture delivered by CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus in which he delves into the Community’s history and provides his vision of its future in an in-depth presentation. Articles on the role statistics plays in the Community’s development, and the Secretariat’s expanding mandates over the years are covered by the Project Director, Regional Statistics, Dr. Philomen Harrison and former Assistant Secretary-General, Regional Trade and Economic Integration, Ambassador Byrone Blake, respectively.
