Message from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Dr Carla Barnett, on the Occasion of the Fifty-First Anniversary of the Signing of the Original Treaty of Chaguaramas

Citizens of the Caribbean Community,

We are marking this Fifty-First Anniversary of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as several Member States are assessing the extraordinary damage and destruction caused by Hurricane Beryl, the earliest recorded Category 5 hurricane in the Caribbean, and one of the most dangerous weather systems the Region has ever experienced.

Statement by the Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on providing support and relief to those affected by Hurricane Beryl

As Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I express  deep concern and continued anxiety over the passage of Hurricane Beryl through our region. Initial reports have indicated significant damage and destruction to infrastructure and private property in some territories. As this weather phenomenon roars its way through the Region, we must continue to brace ourselves against the effects of high winds, storm surges along sea coasts, and heavy rainfall.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is closely monitoring the development of Tropical Storm Beryl and other weather systems as they approach the Region.

There is currently no change to the scheduled 47th Regular Meeting of Heads of Government in Grenada from 3-5 July.
