Community Council Meets in Guyana

Jan 09, 2026

The Fortieth Meeting of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Council of Ministers is taking place at the CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana, today Monday 29 May 2017, with preparations for the upcoming 38th Regular Meeting of Heads of Government among matters listed for the Ministers’ attention.

The 38th Meeting of Heads of Government is scheduled for Grenada on 4 – 6 July 2017, and the Community Council, the second-highest decision-making organ of CARICOM, has responsibility for approving matters for the agenda of the Meeting.

The Community Council will receive reports from the specialist Ministerial Councils of the Community. These include the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) whose recent meetings approved recommendations  on, among other things, the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and the Single ICT Space for the Region; the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) which has approved a Human Resource Development Strategy for the Community, and endorsed preparations for CARIFESTA XIII in Barbados in August; and the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) which met earlier this month and deliberated on a new CARICOM Diplomacy for a Changing International Environment, and trade and development cooperation in a post-Brexit UK, among other matters.  The Legal Affairs Committee (LAC) has also met and deliberated on a number of key Legal issues.
