Yves Bastien and his advisors to discuss the recent payouts of US$23.4 million to Haiti made under the country’s tropical cyclone and excess rainfall policies, as a result of Hurricane Matthew’s passage through that country last month.
Bridgetown, Barbados, June 26, 2014, (CDEMA) – The Fifth (5th) Meeting of the CDEMA Council of Ministers will convene on Friday, June 27, 2014 at the Hilton Hotel in Barbados. The meeting will be attended by Ministers and Permanent Secretaries with responsibility for disaster management within the CDEMA Participating States. The Council is the highest level decision making body in the CDEMA governance structure and will discuss several key matters requiring their approval and endorsement for implementation by the CDEMA Coordinating Unit and Participating States.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake northeast of Barbados caused shaking across the Eastern Caribbean early Tuesday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The quake, which occurred 172 kilometres northeast of Barbados, struck at around 5:27 AM local time. The University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre also recorded the quake has having a magnitude of 6.5 on the Richter scale.
FOUR years have passed since that devastating 2010 earthquake levelled Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital, wreaked havoc on the lives of multiple thousands of Haitians, and ruined the country’s infrastructure and local economy.Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), has noted that there has since been “considerable progress” made in rebuilding Haiti.

This course is an adaptation of the Regional Code of Practice for the Construction of Houses Course which was developed by the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) in collaboration with the CARICOM Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ).
