The tremendous loss of life and destruction caused by the earthquake and tsunami in the Indian Ocean region on 26 December 2004 have shocked the world at large and shattered the lives of many individuals and communities. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by this tragedy, especially those who have lost family and friends.

CARICOM DSG welcomes outgoing French Ambassador for farewell visit

(Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) - On 29 July 2025, CARICOM Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Armstrong Alexis welcomed His Excellency Nicolas de Lacoste, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of France to CARICOM, for a farewell visit to the Secretariat Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

Ambassador de Lacoste presented his credentials on 28 November 2022 and served as the fifth Plenipotentiary Representative of France accredited to the Community.

67th Caribbean Meteorological Council Drives Early Warning Initiatives for Climate Adaptation

The Caribbean Meteorological Council (CMC), the ministerial-level organ of the Caribbean Meteorological Organization (CMO) which represents 16 Member States, convened its 67th Session (CMC67) on 21-22 November 2024, in Tortola, Virgin Islands (British) at Maria’s By The Sea. Under the auspices of the Government of the Virgin Islands, the CMC focused on advancing governance, strategy, and operational capacity related to weather, climate, and water-related activities across the region.

CARICOM and Canada discuss resilience to natural disasters

Keynote Address by CARICOM Secretary-General at 'CARICOM at Fifty' Symposium

CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, delivered the keynote address Friday morning (14 April 2023) at the opening ceremony of a symposium to mark the 50th anniversary of the Caribbean Community being observed this year.

The virtual symposium, titled ‘CARICOM at the Crossroads: Rising to the Challenge of a New Era’, was organised by the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the Institute of International Relations of The University of the West Indies (UWI).
