Competition in the CSME vibrant according to CCC report

The CARICOM Competition Commission (Commission) has published its first “State of Competition Enforcement Report for the period 2019 – 2021”. Even though competition legislation is present in only 4 member states of the CSME, the report posits that during the review period, competition enforcement and advocacy in the region remained vibrant, as 37 cases of anticompetitive business conduct were investigated and 38 merger transactions reviewed.

CARICOM Competition Commission hosts sensitisation workshop on competition law for MPs

The Caribbean Community Secretariat (CARICOM) Competition Commission is working towards implementing and strengthening competition laws and policies in all of its member states.

Members of Parliament (MPs) today, participated in a sensitisation exercise which will pave the way for the establishment of the competition culture locally.

The sensitisation workshop was facilitated through the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) states (CARIFORUM) and CARICOM.

Competition Sensitization for Judges Concludes in Belize

The CARICOM Secretariat winds up its sensitization sessions for judges in competition law and policy this Friday, June 17 in Belize at the Radisson Fort George Hotel. Fourteen members of the judiciary will be participating in the activity which is funded under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).These include judges from Belize’s Supreme Court, The Court of Appeal as well as registrars.

Competition Law, Policy Training Seminar for St. Kitts and Nevis

Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, together with the CARICOM Competition Commission, is hosting a training seminar on Competition Law and Policy on Monday 13 June, 2016, at the Customs and Excise Department.

This introductory Level I training programme is designed to raise knowledge and awareness of Competition Law and Policy, and build institutional capacity within St. Kitts and Nevis in the context of the implementation of the CARIFORUM-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

CCC launches investigation into CWC’s Agreement to Acquire Columbus International Pursuant to Article 175 (6) of the RTC

 The CCC has launched an investigation into the agreement by Cable and Wireless Communications (Plc (“CWC”) to acquire Columbus International Inc.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) institution  which has responsibility for ensuring that the benefits expected from the establishment of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy are not frustrated by anti-competitive business conduct,  has issued a statement.

CARICOM Trade and Competitiveness Project

To ensure the practical effectiveness of the CSME, specific development interventions are required. In this context, a Contribution Arrangement was finalised in October 2007, between representatives of the Government of Canada and the Caribbean Community for the CARICOM Trade and Competitiveness Project (CTCP). Effective implementation of the Project started in May 2008 when the First Meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) approved the Work Plan for 2008.

Telecoms merger has potential to prejudice trade, says CARICOM Competition Commission

PARAMARIBO, Suriname -- The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Competition Commission has concluded that the agreement by Cable and Wireless Communications Plc (CWC) to acquire Columbus International Inc. (Columbus) has the potential to prejudice trade and prevent, restrict or distort competition within the CARICOM Single market and Economy (CSME), with the possibility of cross-border effects.
