COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE EIGHTH MEETING OF THE COUNCIL FOR FOREIGN AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS (COFCOR), 1-2 JUNE 2005, FREEPORT, GRAND BAHAMA, THE BAHAMAS

The Eighth Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) was held in Freeport, Grand Bahama, The Bahamas, on 1-2 June 2005. The Ministers attending were: Dr the Hon. Edmund Mansoor, Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, Antigua and Barbuda; Hon Frederick A Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Public Service, The Bahamas; Hon. CARICOM FOREIGN MINISTERS URGE ACTION ON HAITI

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Foreign Ministers have expressed deep concern over the deterioration of the situation in Haiti. The Community's Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR) pointed out that "the fragility and volatility of the security environment in Port-au-Prince had increased"

CARICOM TASK FORCE - AN INDISPENSABLE TOOL IN REGIONAL RESPONSE TO HAITI

(CARICOM Secretariat, Georgetown, Guyana) The immediate past Chair of CARICOM's Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR), the Hon. Dame Billie A. Miller says the crisis in Haiti has been one of the most complex and revealing tests of CARICOM's foreign policy management and Caribbean solidarity in the Region's political and integration history.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR CARICOM IN DISCUSSION ON UN SECURITY COUNCIL REFORM

Miller says the current discussion on the reform of the United Nations (UN) Security Council represents an opportunity CARICOM states as small vulnerable actors in the international system, to “inform a new definition of security with the realities and threats that we experience on a daily basis which make our lives and our countries insecure.”
