The Statement reads:
The CARICOM Competition Commission (“the Commission”) was established by Article 171 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas (“RTC”), with a mandate to promote and protect competition within the community.
The CARICOM Competition Commission (CCC) and the Caribbean Agricultural Health and Food Safety Agency (CAHFSA) have expressed concern about the new global threat of antibiotics resistance. In a Joint Statement issued on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day to be observed on 15 March 2016, the CARICOM institutions explained the associated challenges and dangers of such resistance.
At its tenth meeting in Grenada in 1989, the Heads of Government of CARICOM agreed that whilst CARICOM would remain a ‘Community of Sovereign States,’ a number of changes were essential for improving the structure and management of the Community, in order to allow it to respond to the challenges and opportunities in the globalised environment.
