Once again, The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is launching a Task Force to assist with the mobilisation of the region’s public health providers to deal with an incoming virus. Four years ago, the Zika virus triggered the response; today it is COVID-19.

CARICOM mounting election observation mission for Guyana’s Elections

Members of the CARICOM Election Observation Mission (CEOM) began arriving in Guyana on February 24, to monitor the country’s Regional and General Elections early next month.

The full complement of the 14-Member Mission will be in Guyana on February 27, and will be on the ground until March 4.

National consultative process to inform development of CARICOM 2020 Strategic Plan off to a Successful Start

On Tuesday, January 11, 2020, Saint Lucia was the first CARICOM Member State to convene broad-based national consultations, which are being coordinated by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat across the Caribbean Community to inform the development of the Results-Focused Community Strategic Plan from 2020.  The consultations brought together a wide range of stakeholders from the public, private, and the not-for-profit sectors including the Youth, the Media, labour, non-governmental and civil society organisations. 

Dominica signs Regional Procurement and Assets Recovery Agreements

Blacklisting comes under microscope at Intersessional

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) continues to intensify its advocacy against the blacklisting of its Member States by the European Union (EU). The EU has used its tax good governance standard to label some Caribbean countries as non-cooperative tax jurisdictions, despite the fact that the countries in question are not designated as non-compliant by the relevant regulatory authorities, such as the Financial Action Task Force and the OECD Global Forum.
