National Company Registries Going Online

Company registries within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) are set to go online this year. This development is due to an ongoing project funded by the 10th European Development Fund to create an online regional registry of companies. This will serve as a central repository of information on companies and other legal entities established in the CSME. This should address some challenges related to the Right of Establishment regime within the CSME.

Barbados to establish regional energy centre

Barbados is to establish a Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Energy Minister Darcy Boyce has said.

Boyce, who held talks with Paolo Serpi, Italy’s Special Envoy to the Caribbean, said that the centre, which is expected to be inaugurated at the end of October, would ensure that the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) countries all had the same standards in respect of renewable energy and energy efficiency as well as similar technologies and the necessary legislation in place.

Barbados and St. Vincent to sign maritime treaty

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Aug 20, CMC – Barbados and St. Vincent and the Grenadines will on Friday sign a treaty on the delimitation of the maritime boundary between them that both countries say will reinforce the bonds of friendship and solidarity which they enjoy.

Barbados Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and his St. Vincent and the Grenadines counterpart Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will sign the accord.

CPDC launches regional campaign against poverty and inequality

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Jan 14, CMC – The Barbados-based Caribbean Policy Development Center (CPDC) says it will launch its Action/2015 Caribbean campaign on Thursday as part of the larger global Action/2015 campaign to end poverty, inequality and bring attention to significant climate change issues.

Barbados & Cuba Discuss Sports & Culture

Barbados and Cuba are seeking to deepen their collaboration in sports and culture. 

The proposed approach was discussed during a courtesy call on Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, by Cuban Ambassador, Francisco Fernández Peña, at the Ministry of Culture’s Haggatt Hall, St. Michael, office, today.

The Sports Minister noted that the National Sports Council was interested in extending its existing contract with CUBADEPORTES but would be seeking to widen cooperation to ensure greater reciprocity. 

Barbados On A Growth Path Says Finance Minister

Mr. Speaker Sir, precisely sixteen months ago we called on all Barbadians to sacrifice in order that we can reap the benefits of necessary stabilization and adjustment in the economy.

Today I can say to the country that, based on actual performance and projections for the immediate future, we have not labored in vain: Barbados is on a growth path once again! Our foreign exchange reserves have stabilized, our fiscal deficit is on a downward trajectory and economic growth is returning. By any objective standard the programme is working!
